INTOXICATION...
the steps she takes,
the blinks he does in a minute,
...BY NUMBERS
[LEFT]I know how it feels to hurt,
and your only comfort to be a piece of steel...
when did it all come crashing down?

Re: How to support a Transgender friend
I would have replied, but I really don't know.......I guess the most important part of a friendship is accepting the person who who they are, and respecting their feelings........if you have both of those, then i'd say your doing your job as a friend
TJ[10:13 PM]: no not really..... it's all so.... like wow..... screw steps, you took a fuckin jet pack and strapped it on yourself and rocketed your way forward (thats my big bro)
And I'm going to extremes
Tomorrow I will change
And today won't mean a thing
I'm a bitch, I'm a tease
I'm a goddess on my knees
When you hurt, when you suffer
I'm your angel undercover
I've been numb, I'm revived
Can't say I'm not alive
You know I wouldn't want it any other way

Re: How to support a Transgender friend
does your friend see a doctor? (it might be easier if you just say "my friend")

I think the most important thing is your friend knows that you will always be there for them....won't judge.

Re: How to support a Transgender friend
Its not a bad idea to ask your friend how they would feel most supported- ask what you can do to help them- you dont know what ze's gender preference is - start by asking that- Friend- I would like to support you in any way i can- i also dont know what gender you would like to be called, can you tell me- would you like to be he/she/ him/her etc... this will start a dialogue and open up communication
another thing that you could possibly do- join an online LGBTQ group- idk if you are in college.. but your LGBQ resource center would also be a great place for you to seek assistance as well
I hope this helps

Re: How to support a Transgender friend
the best way to support your friend is to tell him so. when he calls be willing to discuss whatever he needs to. most of the time, they arent looking for advice - they're just wanting someone to listen. that goes for most who are depressed. when the want advice they'll tell you. gook luck hun.
Email me If you ever need someone to talk to and I'm not online, drop me an E-mail. I'll get it on my phone!

Re: How to support a Transgender friend
I think the most important thing for transgender friends is to make them feel accepted. This goes for any friend really who is going through something that makes them "different." Ask your friend what they prefer to be called. It is very important for transgender individuals to be referred to by their PREFERRED name and gender. If they are not out yet, be careful to keep their secret. But rather than guessing on the him/her issue, using their preferred pronoun would probably make them feel like you really understand. Let them know that you are there for them by actually being there- listening and supporting their feelings. I'm sure this is a confusing time for them as well. But I would like to commend you on your support of your friend. That is very mature of you. Take care .

Re: How to support a Transgender friend
This is a great resource with a lot of information - including some recommended reading: http://www.gendercrash.com/101.shtml
I agree that you need to ask your friend how to be supportive and then stick to it. Just remember that just because you read up on something doesn't mean you know everything or your friend's exact situation. The best thing you can do is listen to your friend.
