I Don't Want Nothing Bad To Happen...

Post by Autumnsflame97 »

This is kinda a long story, so I'll put it in short terms:

Quite awhile ago, I was with this guy and he did oral on me. Little did we know he had a cold sore when he did it.

He didn't give me herpes cuz they tested me for that. It turned out positive for the cold sore virus though.

Now I just started dating my girlfriend (I'm bi) and we haven't had gay sex yet, but I'm really scared that she might get herpes in her mouth or something... because I don't know if the virus might change over time or something...

But I've never had an outbreak since that one day...

...Am I paranoid, or is this something I should really be worried about?

just because you havent had an outbreak doesnt mean she cant get it. they do have condoms for women as well as guys. just let her know what the doctor said. if i were you i just wouldnt take any chances. im not sure if theres something you can take for it since just a virus. i dont know if it goes away with time or anything like that. so talk to you doctor about it. ask them what kind of protection you could use. a doctor isnt going to judge you or give you wrong advice because they dont agree with what you are doing. so i think your best bet would to talk to you doctor.

2 problems with that:

1. If you're using a female condom while doing oral, wouldnt that defeat the purpose?

2. My mom is a nazi Christian. There is no way in hell I can get her to take me to the doctor. She would hate me if she knew me and this girl were more than just good friends.

Amanda,

I don't think the virus could change over time, but I think that you should definetely be careful. You might want to talk to her beforehand. Though the virus wouldn't change, if she gets it, she might react to it in different ways than you have. Not everyone's reaction is the same. I'm not quite sure what you meant by the "cold sore virus" because to my knowledge, cold sores are from herpes, just not the same kind that everyone thinks of as the STD.

There is more than one type of herpes, Herpes Simplex 1 and Herpes Simplex 2. Herpes simplex one is what I think you have, which generally only causes cold sores and sores "above the waist," and herpes simplex two is usually genital herpes, HOWEVER both kinds can cause sores both on the mouth AND on the lower areas depending on where you come in contact.

Have you talked to your girlfriend about this? Honestly, I think it would be unfair to her to start intimate contact and not tell her about it. And if you can get in to see a doctor - perhaps tell your mom that you have something else (headaches, bad cramps on your period, etc) and then just see him/her by yourself. That would really be the best thing to do.

And yes, female condoms and/or dental dams do inhibit things a bit, but I think it better to be safe than sorry, as the old saying goes.

um i would defenetly tell her, and use a dental damn during oral... um you should be okay if your not having an outbreak but better to be safe than sorry

Yeah, Herpes 1 is what I got... She already knows about it. I told her. Neither of us know if she could get it from me or not though..

And yeah, Herpes simplex 1 is what I have.

I have a question, what is a "dental dam"?
