Discussion: What makes you feel better when you're down?

I just wanted to ask this, as I know I do, as well as many others, have big issues getting out of a rut in life.

I find awesome music [like Belle and Sebastian, and Goo Goo Dolls , and Erin will hopefully agree with me here] really make you feel better.

Nice baths, good people to talk to, and of course retail therapy are always good.

Why don't you list some of your own, and explain how, and why they help you feel good?

Cause we all could do with a hand getting out of life's rut sometimes.

Louise.

For me it is my dog and a nice LONG walk. My dog is the best. There is nothing that picks up your spirit more then coming home from a very very bad day and having your dog greet you at the door with kisses and love.

Music is another good one. Depending on the issue I'm having depends on what I turn on. If its an issue with the Ex, I turn on "Gives you Hell" by All American Rejects which ALWAYS makes me smile. Otherwise I just turn on my Ipod and listen to anything on it since it's all up beat sounds like My Chemical Romance, Nickleback, Some Pink, Meredith Brooks.... Music is a great mood changer

Talking with friends or random people about just random things, because it keeps my mind of the issues I may be having. Taking a cold shower, listing to classical music, and doodling.

I think I'll copy and paste my answer from the topic 'What makes a good day?' as these things always help me feel good when I'm down:
Seeing a friend for coffee.

Cooking one of my favourite meals.

Taking a walk.

Sitting outdoors.

A cup of tea or glass of wine.

Chocolate.

Receiving a nice surprise (eg a letter, present, breakfast in bed).

Doing something nice to surprise someone.

Achieving a good days work.

Duvet days.
There are extras that particularly relate to helping me when I'm feeling down or having a rough day:

A relaxing bath if I need to be pampered, going for a swim, walk or bike ride (always relieves stress), and good company (distracting and uplifting).

Take care,

Lena.

PS: How many people here consistently make the time and effort to do these things for themselves? I know I don't make the effort as often as I should, then I wonder why I'm stressed and exhausted. Sometimes I think we could all do with pushing ourselves to take time out and actually do the things that make us feel good on a regular basis so we don't get so run down!

-Reading inspiring words, Quotes or poems, etc.

-Looking at beautiful & inspiring paintings and drawings.(visual art)

-Discovering a amazing new band I've never heard of and checking out their songs.

-A guy asking me out/flirting with me. It's just a instant boost to my self-esteem <img src='http://www.helpingteens.org/groups/publ ... tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

-writing in a journal (letting out pent up frustrations)

-reading a funny book or watching a really funny comedy that makes me laugh alot <img src='http://www.helpingteens.org/groups/publ ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

-swinging in a swing (seriously it works)

-Getting up early and listening to the quiet. Than watching the sunrise and listening to all the birds wake up as the new day begins.

For me I talk to my friend Penny, she's older and she's been everywhere I am now. I also listen to music when I feel down, something that will remind me that everything happens for a reason even if it isn't clear yet.
