I'm not sure about the user/viewing question for vB.

Re-enabling PMs shouldn't be an issue. At least not anymore. Hopefully an admin can comment soon.

When you look at the who's omline area it looks like this.

Currently Active Users: 14 (4 members and 10 guests)

View Who's Online

Most users ever online was 32, Yesterday at 04:03 PM.

Leapfrog, Beautiful, Lena, LostMySanity

Click on the "Currently Active Users" and you will see what you want to see. :)

Enabling PM's can be done via the ACP. So we, admins, need to set it.

To enable your PMs, go to options in your user Control Point, and tick the box that says 'enable private messaging'.

I'll pop a post about this into the announcement about our changes.

The PMs have been enabled the entire time. I believe it's a side effect of the import process. I will need to just do a table update for the "enable personal messages" option in everyones UserCP so I can do it all at once. I'm also going to purge everyones PM inbox so we can start fresh in the personal messages front as at least 3,000 of them are extremely outdated mass personal messages sent about updates to the support group rules.

As for the users online. I believe you are referring to a listing at the bottom of every forum and topic on who is viewing that particular forum and/or topic. That is certainly possible but I made a decision not to enable it for whatever reason it may have been at the time. I don't particularly see it as an important feature but if people want it back, I could always turn it back on.

Alright, I've purged the old personal messages, reset the pmtotal and pmunread counters, and turned on everyones personal message popup by default. We now have a fresh start on the personal messages. I am still looking for the area of the user mysql table that controls "enable personal messages." When I find it I will set it to enabled.

Alrighty then, the PM system should be enabled for all users now.

Hopefully future registered users have it on by default.

Is it my imagination or are all our old archives deleted? And will they be returning?

So, it sounds like we're starting fresh on PMs. That's okay. I had a bunch of messages from people but I haven't talked to many in quite a while.

Michie,

As noted before the conversion, in the mass email and announcement forum, It was expected that all Personal Messages would be lost in the conversion. Sorry about that, but apparently the two systems where incompatible in sorting the PMs into folders and such. I think I covered it all, but Skye would be more able to address you question.

It threw all of the messages carelessly in the Inbox. The sent items were no longer in sent items, the archives folder I had was thrown about. Most users didn't even have the PM system turned on after the conversion due to a reason I can't even begin to tell you, but I had to fix it yesterday afternoon. I even had a couple of other users personal messages. I decided to completely reinitialize the personal messaging system and delete all messages. We still have the old system running on the server but it's isolated from users.

But to be fair, you were given plenty of notice that this may occur.
