I know everyone gets annoying college mail. Some institutions though insist on sending me two of the same thing, and don't acknowledge if I unsubscribe. When is too much too much? And what should I do if they call, so that I don't sound snobby but communicate that I'm not interested?

that had happened to me several times...
If they call just be honost and tell them that you aren't interested and tell them the institute you are interested in...
Keep in mind it will most likily be fellow students calling to ask you - and as long as you are interested in another school, they will be okay . . .
But often they do not listen to "unsubscribte" just so you know . . .

I've been called several times by a 'student information bureau' in my city asking me to answer a survey and to ask if I know about the services they provide/if I have received information from them, etc etc etc....
What I do is tell them very firmly but politely that I have already been called (and add that it is so far *place emphasis here* three, no FOUR times and thats its a waste of their time and resources). I have answered their survey, know about their services and have received the information they are giving me.
Usually they apologise and end the call. If not, I simply say 'thank you for calling, however I've already received a call of this nature, goodbye' and put the phone down.
If its mail, you can always write a letter to that effect and send it to them (attach it to and return the mail if its economical to do so).
Always remember to polite but FIRM. Don't feel bad or rude for putting the phone down (politely) if you have to. Its not only a waste of your time but its a waste of theirs if they sit and ramble on at you with a repeat of information you already know. Don't forget they're paid to do the job - it won't feel personal if you put the phone down or make it clear you don't want to listen to their blurb because you've already heard it.
Take care,
Lena.
